Can We Call It Culottes

The easy guide to wearing culottes. From everyday wear to an easy night time transition.

I put these five look together just to show how easy culottes can be to style. Each of these looks are interchangeable meaning you can get a lot of use out of a few t shirts and two pairs of culottes.

Good old culottes have been around since the 19th century and were originally worn by gentlemen to express their wealthy status.

Today, culottes are pretty much a Marmite piece of clothing. You either love them or you loathe them.

Hopefully this quick little guide will be able to help you decide which team you're on.

The important thing to remember is that culottes are good to accentuate clean lines in your wardrobe and make a statement. Whether you are pairing them with a really casual plain white/grey/black t-shirt or with a structured, more formal top- you can make sure you make an impression on an onlooker.

I love to pair culottes with heels. I really wouldn't go along the lines of wearing them with flats, because it could have a shortening illusion on your legs. In other words, you may look stumpy. This is completely the opposite of what culottes do though when you pair them with the right pair of heels. They have a really lengthening and slimming effect on the legs and especially the calves. A pair of Mules are always a hit with culottes, as are a pair of 'strap above the ankle' heels.
